At the intersection of tradition and modernity, culinary consultant and TV chef Deema Hajjawi is dedicated to simplifying cooking for the modern homemaker. We caught up with the passionate recipe developer to discuss her philosophy, her favorite kitchen staples, and the ambition driving her work.
1. Tell us about your culinary journey
I have loved this thing since I was little. My mother is very good at cooking, and so is my grandmother. So we inherited many of the recipes, and I developed them, and made them suitable for the modern housewife.
2. What are the three ingredients you always keep in your kitchen?
I feel that the most important ingredients at home or in the kitchen are olive oil, and a type of spice, for example, sumac. I also really like to rely on seasonal vegetables. For instance, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, or any kind of seasonal vegetable that is currently available.
3. What is your “dream life” or your ultimate professional goal?
I want to succeed in the field of the mixtures (blends) that I am creating from herbs and spices, and develop them further, to make the life of a housewife easier.
4. What is your basic principle or motto for your work?
My principle is honesty and diligence. If you are honest in your work and diligent, you will succeed.
