Summer in the Orient

Consider your summer party plans complete with a beachfront tablescape from Michele Chacour of Effet Design at the new Kempinski Summerland Hotel & Resort. Pristine summer skies and the essence of the Orient…

Do you entertain at home a lot?
I try to make alluring tables with the new items I design. My guests usually wait to find out how I’ve arranged and decorated my table. My husband and I are very social and we like to have dinners and brunches at home most of the time.

What kinds of table accessories are a must this season?
This season tablecloths should be in linen. The grey is still trendy but the light pink is a must, together with a mix of three colors of copper, silver and brass for different accessories.

What accessories would you add to a table for that extra ‘wow’ factor?
In order to have an appealing table, never forget the flowers and candles. In front of each plate, add a mini vase with flowers, put a napkin ring and add a chocolate for every guest; it’s a simple thought, but much appreciated.

What was your inspiration for this table setting?
The summer season begins during the month of Ramadan, so we went with an ‘Oriental Summer’ theme. That’s why I chose fresh colors with an oriental touch with the hammered brass and copper. I also used hammered copper bowls filled with flowers, but you can use them to display your Lebanese dishes like hummus or dates.

Can you give us some tips for a quick and easy way to set the table?
Use a nice tablecloth, matching the colors of the plates and glasses. The napkin rings add a touch of elegance; they’re always an added value to your table. A centerpiece with candles and a flower next to each plate will make all the difference. Display your dishes differently
